Switchboard: The Grief Project

The Grief Project by the charity Switchboard supports LGBTQ+ people who have experienced a loss or bereavement. Many LGBTQ people face a number of additional challenges when it comes to bereavement, in addition to universal experiences of grief, pain and sadness.

These can include LGBTQ discrimination, a failure to acknowledge relationships,
estrangement from families, legal and financial issues, and exclusion from discussions and decisions made by family members and health care professionals.

The team at the Grief Project adopt an inclusive definition of grief. This includes grieving the breakdown of a relationship, the loss of a pet, family estrangement, and terminal diagnoses.

They also offer Grief Meets, a monthly informal meeting, where groups explore a particular theme each month, usually using a creative outlet, and providing an opportunity to meet with others and explore grief.
