
Alison Stansfield
1971-2021
Alison spent her early years in Africa until her family returned to the Lake District. As a young adult, she started a teaching career and married a railway civil engineer. She became involved with the Permanent Way Institute and quickly became a cherished member of the rail community. In 1982, she and her husband, David, moved to the USA and started a family of three; Graham, Colin and Simon. In 1989, she became the unsung hero of a fledgling company, Laser Rail, and was integral to the company’s growth. Alison was one of the first Chartered Directors of the Institute of Directors. She enjoyed several international business expeditions and set up her own consultancy, Barbro Consulting, coaching entrepreneurs. Alison had many lovable characteristics and is remembered for her eternal optimism. Her strong belief that she could conquer anything saw her even beat cancer after a brave fight of many years. Alison’s warmth, charisma, and sharp business mind, remains her legacy amongst all who knew her. She will always be greatly missed.
